oh well, what i did finish was a pullover for my friend's baby. she's 10 months now, and she's the first child of any of my friends. she looks pretty happy about her gift, doesn't she?;) the pattern is from 1988, from a dale of norway booklet my mother had. it's knitted in babyull from dale on 2,5 mm needles. it was supposed to have more bobbles, and i'm not sure why i didn't make them. i think i was concerned about not having enough of that light green yarn, since it was only leftovers from the pretty intricate lace blanket i made for the girl when she was born. the stranded pattern is not perfect either but i'm working on a fair isle pullover for myself now and i'm already much better at it!
the other gift was a pair of fetching for a friend. she didn't give me no gift tho'...but since i used the last rest of some cheap vestlandsgarn from gjestal that i got on sale and that i really didn't like for myself (i try to avoid superwash, it's too shiny!), and since fetching is such a quick knit, it didn't really matter. i know she loves me anyway;)
so, they're in wool, knitted on 3,5 mm needles. i did the same as for my own pair, only cast on 40 sts instead of 45. she said they fit her very snuggly, but five stiches more would've made them too big!
so, waiting more than two months between every update might not be the smartest move to get and eventually keep any readers... i could blame it on having exams before x-mas and on the internet connection at my parents' only allowing me to read vox for two weeks. but now i'm back with my own steady internet connection and i can only blame myself for neclegting this blog. oh well, i should have plenty to write about now! i think i'll start with paris!
of course, i had to look for yarn. we found la drougerie but it was crowded and i didn't buy anything there. just touched all the beautiful yarn and looked at all the wonderful beads! but at anny blatt i did some shopping!. only three skeins tho' - the green one i'm holding on the picture (wool with 15% cashmere), one with some metallic mohair and one with 50% wool and 50% poil de chameau which i bought because i didn't understand what it was. turns out it's camel hair in case you don't know any more french than i do. i'm pretty pleased about now having some camel hair in my stash, but i do not for the life of me understand why i didn't buy more than 125 grams of yarn!? i could've bought two skeins of each, for instance...
by this point, my friend was bored so we had to find a record shop instead. and the rest of the weekend we did touristy stuff like visiting that tower, louvre and shop x-mas presents. i also met a girl from livejournal and bought some pretty clothes. then we flew home.
today i finally visited one of oslo's best yarn shops, tjorven. they have a bit more than just the regular garnstudio yarns, which are everywhere. but i'd actually hoped they had more imported yarn than they had. i ended up buying two skeins noro kureyon and one skein kid silk haze, too a much steeper price than in any online shop of course. but it's the thing about feeling the yarn, and it's more fun shopping in a real shop:) i also bought some needles i needed for my boyfriend's socks. funny story - i knitted my first mittens last x-mas and started on 3,5mm. but they came out too small since i'm a thight knitter, so i changed to 4mm. i measured my needles a gazillion times, and also the original 3,5mm's and found that all of them was 4mm! untill a couple of weeks ago i was convinced that i had two sets of 4mm dpn's but then i measured again and now all of them are 3,5mm! no wonder my bf's socks became too tight when i started them on these needles, and my mittens are a bit small...
as for my knitting, at the moment i'm just making x-mas gifts. i'm not
sure how many i'm gonna make - at least one, and i doubt there'll be
more than three. with the one i'm sure about the knitting is done
already. hope i get to steam block it tomorrow, then i'll see if i have
to re-knit the top part of this thing. my gauge and tension is not the
best, i'm afraid:( oh well, to be on the safe side, there won't be any
pictures before december 25th.
where to start? i've wanted to have a knitting blog for some time, and
now seemed to be the perfect time to start one since i finally bought a
camera last week. obviously, there's no point in having a blog about
knitting if you can't show off what you make! but i'm not the kinda
knitter who have a new fo every week. i knit all the time - in front of
the tv, in lectures at uni, at buses and trains and so on - but i
switch between projects all the time. right now i probably have about
ten wip's on the needles... well, yesterday i actually frogged two of
them tho', because i didn't really like them.
however, i do sometimes finish. the last thing was fetching. they're made in rauma 3tr. strikkegarn which is my favorite yarn for mittens and such. in fact, all yarns from rauma are my favorites. you can probably blame my mother for that since literally all she knits is in rauma yarn... plus the yarns are beautiful, give great stitch definition and beatiful and durable garments! anyway, i used 4mm needles and the gauge was pretty much the same as in the pattern. but i modified it a bit since my hands are tiny - only cast on 40 stitches instead of 45.
now off to watch grey's anatomy!
i think i'm gonna make this my knitting blog
on paris, france
